Flavours of Series 2 around Asia - Flavours of Thailand

Hello all,

Here I am with another event announcement of one of the most famous event in blogging world which has taken us around the Indian subcontinent and now around Asia.

Nayna of  simply sensational food  is the brain child behind this wonderful event. Thanks Nayna for giving me this opportunity to guest host your wonderful event.

We are now on our culinary journey to Thailand in the "Flavours of Series 2 around Asia" by Simply.food. This journey is starts from today, June 1st 2012 until June 30th 2012.

Now something about the Country itself. Thailand is located in South East Asia and ofcourse it has a cuisine of its own. The cuisine is based on the moto - light dishes with strong aromatic components. The cuisine mainly balances 4 fundamental tastes - sweet, salty, sour and bitter.

Common herbs used are cilantro, lime leaves, thai basil, mint, lemongrass for the real aromatic punch in dishes. The other common ingredients also include coconut milk, galangal, ginger, tumeric, peppercorns, soybeans, shallots etc.

This cuisine is also famous for curry paste : Red curry, Green curry, Yellow curry and massaman curry paste etc.

I am sure most of your have tasted the various dishes belonging to this cuisine. Typically meals are served with one main dish usually rice with several complimentary dishes shared by all. Rice is the staple of Thai cuisine especially Jasmin rice is indigenous to Thailand.

Desserts play a very important role. Traditionally rice, fresh coconut flesh and milk, fruits are used for desserts. The most famous Sticky rice with coconut milk and slices of fresh mango tickles the taste buds of everyone.
